Kristen Cunningham has been passionate about sports and fitness since early childhood. Growing up with two super athletic and competitive brothers in Houston, Texas, it was not long before she joined in the healthy sibling rivalry and ventured deeply into the world of competitive athletics. By age six, she was competing successfully in swimming, track and field, and soccer. By age eight, soccer became Kristen?s athletic obsession, and from there she developed a devotion to the sport, which enabled her to compete at the highest levels of the soccer world through high school and college. This culminated in a highly successful four-year run at the collegiate level with The College of William and Mary where, as a playmaking midfielder, she helped lead the ?Tribe? to two Colonial Athletic Association titles and four straight Division I NCAA tournament appearances between 1988 and 1991.
After graduating from William and Mary, Kristen taught elementary school for several years, earned a Master?s degree in administration from George Mason University, and went on to serve as an Assistant Principal in Fairfax County for five years. She is the mother of three children (five year old twins and a seven year old), and with the support of her husband, John, she has been able to dedicate time to her current athletic passion -- maintaining a high level of health and fitness by competing in road races and triathlons and teaching others to enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. She also continues to play soccer and uses her experience and passion for competitive athletics and fitness to teach her children to live a healthy lifestyle.
Kristen is currently teaching preschool in Arlington, Virginia. She gets particular enjoyment out of motivating busy moms like herself to enhance their fitness levels and create healthy lifestyles, and she believes in the power of education to develop a foundation for fitness and nutrition in children. Most importantly, Kristen wants exercise to be fun and challenging. And she recognizes that there are few things better in life than the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes with a challenging workout. With this background, she is thrilled to be joining the FIT 4 MOMS team.
